God, the color symbolism in Sinners. Remmick being the only one with red reflection in his eyes, even after he turns person after person, still isolated within his unreachable, hate-fueled fantasy. Stack wearing red for the majority of the film until he’s turned. Red being the only color that Grace has to paint the Club Juke sign with. Someone else mentioned this, but Lisa’s red shirt being the delineation between herself and both the white-customer and black-customer storefronts her parents own—the ability to walk between worlds, and yet to never really be a part of either one. It goes beyond “oh, red is the color of blood.” Red is foreshadowing for bad things to come, red is otherness, red is violent isolation. Stack no longer wearing red in his 90s mid-credit getup. I’m losing it. Don’t even get me started on blue.

I love it when people use “shrimp” to mean “beyond the human range”. like “shrimp colors” but applied to other things. “shrimp emotions” “shrimp sounds” “shrimp morality”, as if shrimp are living some kind of transcendent existence that humans can never comprehend

i love characters with abandonment issues so strong they end up being the one doing the abandoning. the first hint they get at there being tension they run. i love when characters dont want to be left so bad they leave first. i love when characters refuse to let someone scar them twice so they scar everyone else first. you can never be left behind if you never let anyone close enough in the first place
